Hostel <=> Train

We are right across the street from the train station, you cannot dream of a better location if you intend to take one of the only 2 trains which leave at 6 am and 7 am

The train station has a very irregular schedule to sell tickets, so it is quite easy to simply cross the small street from the hostel to find out when the station is open so that you can purchase your tickets.

What are the most important things to know about the train ?

There are only 2 trains, one is first class, second is second class.
There us to be a third class which does not exist, and about 10 years ago the first class train became the second class train, leaving room for a brand new (ok, kind of new) first class.

To us, there are only 2 differences between the first class and the second class :
- The first class train is leaving 1 hour earlier, goes faster as it arrives at Los Mochis about 2 hours earlier, and there is a restaurant inside with a waiter.
- The second class train only has some kind of bar like the TGV's bar in France, but they can cook quesadillas for you, and stops on demand at numerous places.

We actually favor the second class train, for various reasons :
- It is quite comfortable and clean
- Much more Mexicans and Indians, so you can have interesting chats along the road
- The train visit places so remote in the mountains, it is the only way for the people to reach their villages. The train will stop and give you the time to admire amazing little places.
- The train does not rush - that is the least you can say :-). We like that.

Now that said, in very busy periods like Christmas or Eastern, you may want to book the train in advance, and you can only book the first class.

Prices are changing all the times, and so is the Mexican peso against the dollar so it is getting a bit tricky to show prices.
Please take therefore the below prices are INDICATIVE :-)
First class costs about 1500 pesos from Chihuahua to Los Mochis
Second class costs half of it.
